Dear Third Graders,

 WELCOME TO THIRD GRADE, and to Village Elementary School! My name is Mrs. Gold and I am thrilled to be your teacher this year! 

You should be very excited for this coming school year. In Social Studies, you are going to learn all about the amazing history of Montgomery Township, and take a field trip around town! You are also going to study the fascinating Native American Indian tribes, such as the Sioux, Hopi, Iroquois, Chilkat, and Lenape. At the end of the year, we’ll have a Native American Pow-Wow to celebrate all of our learning! In science, you are going to explore rocks, minerals, and plants. You are also going to discover magnetism and electricity, and conduct some real hair-raising experiments! In math, you are going to be masters of multiplication and division by the end of the year! We’re going to do graphing, fractions, problem solving, geometry, and much more! I hope you have been practicing your addition and subtraction facts! And of course, we are going to be reading so many interesting novels and chapter books, and doing lots of fabulous writings along with them! 

If you complete your homework each week, you can play Homework-opoly on Fridays and receive different prizes! I have beautiful little hearts that are used to fill up a jar if the class behavior is excellent. If the jar is full, the class wins a party! Also this year, you will get paid in Classroom Cash for doing your homework, being organized, responsible, and well-behaved. You can save up your Classroom Cash to win different rewards! And we have a special visitor who sneaks into our room in the middle of the night. Who might this be? The Desk Fairy of course- searching for the cleanest and most organized desk. I hope you are neat!  

You’ll need to come to school prepared with certain things. To find my supply list, you can visit the Village Elementary School website or click here to see it on this website. Please note– the reason that there are so many supplies listed is that you will be putting most of them together to create your own Blue Bird Binder. The Blue Bird is our school mascot, and the letters in Blue Bird stand for: Bringing Lessons Used Everyday; Being Incredibly Responsible Daily. Each day, bring to school a healthy snack (no juice, only water) and a book for DEAR time. I have a huge classroom library if you’d prefer to get a book there.  

Below, is our class pledge. I am asking you to TRY to memorize it, and be ready to recite it to me on the first day of school! This is your first homework assignment!

“I pledge today to do my best in reading, math, and all the rest. I promise to obey the rules, in my class and in the school. I’ll respect myself and others too, I’ll expect the best in all I do. I am here to learn all I can, to try my best and be all I am!”
